Being a native of rural Eastern Kentucky, I am very proud of my Appalachian heritage. However, I have lived in several areas of the Eastern United States; being mainly in Southern states accounts for my Southern accent. The first big change of my life was at 12 years of age, when my family moved from Kentucky to Florida.
Another major change in my life has been in my role as a health care provider. For years I was a Registered Nurse, with years of experience working with children of all ages in a hospital setting - prematures, normal-newborns, newborns with critical disorders, and pediatrics.
My Doctorate in Psychology (Ph. D.) pertained to the developmental/clinical areas. Thus I see clients of all ages. About 50% of my clients are adults that are seen in individual sessions. The other portion of my practice often pertains to the family unit, such as children and adolescents being seen with their parents in family sessions and couples being seen for marital therapy.
Another role is my being a child adovate whenever necessary. At times, I have been court ordered to work with families that have an extended history of being involved with the legal system regarding child issues.
The major portions of my career as a psychologist have been in private practice. Although I enjoyed having a private practice for 13 years in Prestonsburg, KY, I moved my practice to Georgetown, KY (12/05) to live closer to my son and his family.
